In this episode of the Local Pickup, we look at a beautiful Early Romantic guitar made in 1860 in Passau, Germany. Though the label says it was made by renown luthier Georg Heidegger, a little research told us that Heidegger died in 1859, and so he could not have made this guitar. We believe it may have been made instead by the legendary Johann Hornsteiner, who built the guitar before he absconded with Heidegger’s widow and went to Mittenwald to form a luthiery dynasty still alive today.
