2013 Gibson Custom Shop Hummingbird Maple

THE GUITARCHIVE - This very limited edition 2013 Gibson Custom Shop Hummingbird Maple is in excellent condition. The historic cherry finish on this guitar is just gorgeous. It plays wonderfully well, sounds fantastic, and is an all around A+ of a guitar. Built by Gibson's famed Custom Shop, this guitar was made from the finest tone woods hand selected for its Sitka Spruce top, its Flamed Maple back and sides, its Mahogany neck, and its Rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

With beautifully low action, a 24 3/4" scale length, and a 1-3/4" nut, it plays very comfortably. The Sitka Spruce and Maple combination makes for a nice full sound with a good bass response and a nice snap in the higher-mids to make the sound very present in the mix, so to speak. The LR Baggs electronics and volume control are top notch (sound great).

You can demo guitars like this at The Local Pickup guitar showroom in Rock Hill, SC.

About the Hummingbird

This Gibson was first released the Gibson Hummingbird in 1961. It was their first square-shoulder dreadnought model (as opposed to their slope-shoulder dreadnoughts like the J-45 and 50). The square shoulders, red burst finish, the flashy pick guard design, and the shorter scale neck (as opposed to a Martin or a Gibson SJ-200) made a real splash in the guitar world when it was released. It has continued to be one of the best selling acoustic guitars and played by a long list of famous players.
