The Sony TA-DM1000ES is a vintage digital master control center preamplifier designed for home audio setups, allowing connection and control of up to nine different audio components through a wide array of inputs and outputs. It offers digital signal processing for various sources and is intended to serve as the central hub for multi-room or complex audio systems, notable for its solid build, reliability, and flexible switching capabilities. It also functions as a simple audio preamplifier. The unit has 8 channel selection buttons (Tuner, CD1, CD2, Tape1, DAT/Tape2, TV/Aux, Video1, video2, video3) and an output that is volume controlled. There are also bass and treble, balance and mute controls. Unit has a built-in headphone amplifier with gold-plated jack. There is a tape loop with source selection buttons. There is also an Adapter-loop, which allows you to insert an equalizer or processor in signal path. Adapter-loop bypasses tone control stack. Alternatively, you can use Adapter-loop input as Direct-source input (e.g. for your phono preamp). CD1 input also accepts optical SPDIF signal (Toslink), which allows SONY function as a 16bits DAC as well. (You can link your PC to it using USB ->Toslink adapter). Lastly, TA-DM1000ES provides six switched AC-outlets, which one can use to power-on/off source(s) automatically.
SO, you can use it as a pre-amplifier and ignore all that other stuff out the back related to digital signal transfer.
